Reiki Session Guide
Hello Dream Weavers,
Greetings!
Whether you're receiving Reiki, planning to receive it, or simply curious about what it is — this guide is here to support you.
What is Reiki?
Let’s take a moment to understand what Reiki is.
At its essence, Reiki (霊気) is the universal life force energy —
the intelligent, healing energy that flows through all living things.
REIKI 霊気
The word Reiki comes from Japanese:
Rei (霊) means "spirit" or "universal"
Ki (気) means "life energy" (similar to Chi or Prana)
Reiki as a healing practice was rediscovered in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui,
a Japanese spiritual seeker who developed a method of channeling this energy through the hands.
His system was rooted in meditation, intuition, and energetic balance —
with the intention of supporting the body, mind, and soul.
Since then, Reiki has spread across the world and evolved into many lineages and styles.
At its heart, though, it remains a gentle, non-invasive,
and loving way of offering support to the natural healing intelligence already present within you.
How does Reiki Session work?
During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner acts as a conduit — using their hands and presence to channel Reiki energy into the recipient’s biofield.
It’s not the practitioner’s personal energy being given, but rather universal life force energy flowing through them. This intelligent energy supports the recipient’s natural healing process, gently restoring balance on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels.
Some people feel physical sensations during a session — like warmth, tingling, a sense of floating, or emotional release.
Others may feel nothing at all in the moment, but the experience gently unfolds over couple of days.
Each kind of experience is valid since reiki meets people where they are — their experiences are dependent on their state and their needs.
Reiki Magic
Reiki always know where to reach, kind of like the idea of water naturally flows to lower ground.
Reiki is like a tuning fork, harmonizing energy it reaches.
It works many layers - the energetic, the emotional, and the physical level.
And because it addresses the root level - energetic level - it naturally creates shifts across all other levels as well.
Some things are meant to be felt, not explained.
It’s honestly quite hard to explain what Reiki is — What is “universal life force”? Why does Reiki seem to have its own intelligence?
When I first learned Reiki, my rational mind was full of questions. And I still don’t have all the answers.
But when I began to experience Reiki, rather than just think about it. The questions just doesn’t seem important anymore.
At this stage of my journey, I’ve learned to let the questions simply be. Some things are meant to be felt, not explained.
Whenever we try to understand something beyond the mind —
especially through language — it can start to feel distorted, or too small.
Words are powerful, yes, but they’re also designed to define, to categorize, to contain.
They help us communicate, but they often shrink what they try to describe.
So maybe Reiki — like paradox, like soul, like love — simply can’t be explained through language.
Yes, it can be portrayed — like painting a landscape or capturing a fleeting moment in a photograph.
But even then, it’s only a piece of the truth.
Every portrayal is filtered through the eyes of the observer.
What we express is shaped by who we are, what we’ve lived, and what we’re ready to perceive.
To put our minds at ease, maybe Reiki simply doesn’t need to be explained.
The beautiful truth is:
You don’t need to fully understand Reiki for it to work.
(You don’t have to understand the science of water to benefit from drinking it, right?:))
You just need to be willing — to meet it with openness, curiosity, and presence.
Let the experience speak for itself.
Even if your session feels subtle (or like “nothing happened”), trust that the energy is still working —
seen or unseen, always in alignment with your highest good.
As the quantum world hints: The act of observing shifts the reality.
So when you believe in something, it begins to take shape.
Sometimes, all you need… is faith.
Faith and discernment — the combo for great discoveries.
What Can Reiki Be Used For?
Reiki can support just about anything — because it works at the energetic level, the root behind all experiences.
In general, Reiki helps balance energy.
It works on the energetic body — and because energy is the foundation — it also influences the emotional and physical layers.
It can bring in what’s needed, and clear out what no longer serves.
It can support manifestation, and help dissolve blocks.
Because Reiki transcends time and space,
it can reach into the past, influence the future,
and isn’t limited by physical location.
That being said, here are some common areas Reiki is used for:
Emotional healing: grief, heartbreak, anxiety, sadness, fear
Physical support: chronic pain, tension, fatigue, insomnia
Mental clarity: stress relief, overthinking, mental fog
Spiritual connection: inner peace, intuition, soul alignment
Creative flow: inspiration, blocks, self-expression
Life transitions: big changes, endings, new beginnings
Chakra balancing: clearing, grounding, activating
Energetic cleansing: releasing stuck patterns or energies that aren’t yours
Subconscious reprogramming: shifting limiting beliefs, deep pattern work, inner child healing
Reiki can also be sent to:
Situations or events (past, present, or future)
Relationships (with others — or with yourself)
Goals or intentions (like seeds you’re planting)
Spaces (like your home, studio, or sacred space)
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Some shifts happen in just one session — a wave of clarity, emotional release, or a deep sense of peace.
Other situations may need a longer period of time to heal and integrate.
There’s no set number.
Reiki meets you where you are and works in layers.
Each session supports your healing in the exact way you’re ready to receive.
When in doubt, ask your intuition.
Ask your gut, or listen to your body.
You can also journal about your experience —
sometimes that’s all your rational mind needs
to decide whether you’d like to continue with more sessions.
Pre-Session Preparation
You don’t need to do anything special before a Reiki session — the energy will meet you where you are.
That said, here are some suggestions that may help you deepen the experience:
Journal Your “Before Snapshot”
Take a few quiet moments to write in a journal — whatever comes up: thoughts, emotions, body sensations, dreams, or just how you’re feeling right now. Think of it as recording your current state. This creates a “before snapshot” — and later, you may notice shifts you wouldn’t have otherwise seen.
If you’re receiving Reiki regularly, your journal becomes a field guide for your journey, helping you witness the deeper layers of growth and healing unfolding over time. Some intentions take longer to manifest. Your journal become the mirror — revealing your evolution.Set the Space and Vibe(if you can)
While it’s not required, a comfortable and quiet space can support your nervous system in receiving and relaxing.
You might dim the lights, lie down, play gentle music, or light a candle — whatever helps you feel safe and relaxed.*For music, you can explore the pre-recorded Reiki-infused sessions available here in Stone Soup Grimoire, or something inaudible, light, and meditative.
Set a Clear Intention
It is helpful to set a clear intention though not required.
For Non-Scheduling Reiki Blessing Session
Just be open.
During the Session
All you need to do is relax and trust.
If you feel called, you may begin by gently placing a hand over your heart and saying:
“I welcome Reiki, and trust that it will support me for my highest good.”
You can also repeat the intention you set, or simply breathe deeply and allow yourself to receive.
There’s nothing you need to do — Reiki will flow exactly where it’s needed.
Post session
After the session, drink a glass of water to help your body integrate the energetic shift.
Hydration supports the flow of subtle energy through your system.
Here are some simple grounding suggestions to support integration:
Eat something nourishing
Step outside and touch nature (bare feet, sun, plants)
Move gently — stretch, shake, or walk
Wrap yourself in a blanket or take a warm bath
Avoid screens or intense conversations for a little while, if possible
✧ Reflect + Record
Return to your journal and write about your experience. What did you feel, notice, or dream?
You may wish to compare it to the entry you wrote before the session — even subtle differences can hold insight.
There’s no right answer. Simply write what wants to be witnessed.
